GIS and Remote Sensing Technical Training in Myanmar
The mission was arranged by the UN WFP Country Director in Yangon, with the goal to help the government and NGO partners in Myanmar to use the latest technology in the field to map situations such as the cyclone devastation caused by Nargis in 2008. Three ITHACA specialists together with an expert GIS mapper from the UN WFP Emergency Preparedness and Response Branch gave three two-day training sessions – first in the new capital, Naypyidaw and then in the old one, Yangon. The main topics of the technical training were Spatial Data Infrastracture, Rapid Mapping based on satellite imagery and GIS analysis for risk assessment purposes. Further information is available on WFP website.
