In the framework of the partnership between the World Bank and the Government of Malawi for flood risk reduction in the Shire River Basin, ITHACA has been appointed technical consultant for the development and implementation of the MASDAP, a web-based data sharing tool based on GeoNode, the free and open-source software which is being used in a number of other OpenDRI projects in the region and around the world.

In line with the World Bank's Open Data for Resilience Initiative (OpenDRI), the online platform for Malawi helps ensure that the data created by a number of past or ongoing projects is maintained and remains accessible and useful to the Government of Malawi.

ITHACA provided the necessary technical support and training to the National Spatial Data Center and partner ministries to carry the initiative through the first phase, which took place from May through December 2012. Since then, ITHACA has provided continuous support to the MASDAP activities in the country, by upgrading the platform to the latest GeoNode versions, developing new visualization tools and providing technical training sessions to the local users. ITHACA is in charge of the maintenance of the platform until April 2018.
